What’s Old is New/Someone Needs To Go

What’s Old Is New

As is often said in the fashion world, what’s old is new or what once was fashionable will eventually make a comeback.  I remember when I was in high school there were jeans that the “ska, punk or skater” kids worse called JNCOs.  They are very wide legged jeans with huge pockets and very baggy.  Well thirty years later and what’s old is new because they are back in fashion.  I remember kids wearing clothing in the 90s which were fashionable when my parents were in their teens/twenties as well which was also thirty years later.

Why am I discussing fashion?  I like to think I have some style but I am surely no fashionista.  You did not come here to read about Jason’s fashion taste or a discussion on what is cool to wear.

As the avid readers of our blogs or listeners to our podcasts know, Chris, Kevin and I went to school at Oswego from the 1996-2001 timeframe.  Well, when we started school the Oswego State Great Lakers (as they were called back ten) and now just the Lakers, had some sweet jerseys.  The jerseys said Lakers across the front but the horizontal portion of the ‘L’ were waves for obvious reasons being on the shores of Lake Ontario and the big waves that are seen during the frigid winters.

They have created different versions of the jerseys throughout the years.  There were jerseys that just read ‘Oswego State’ with the players number on the front, ‘Oswego’ across the front, ‘LAKERS’ in block and a ship wheel that said ‘Oswego on top and State on the bottom with Lakers in the middle’, among others.

Well as Slim Shady once said, “Shady’s back, back again”.  The Lakers wave jerseys are back, back again, and I am 1000% here for it.  The Oswego State women’s team put out a nice hype video teasing the jerseys for their twenty-year anniversary since the program was brought back without showing them.  At the end you see a slight glimpse of a wave and you can tell what it is if you know.  As they say IYKYK!!

Jersey changes are always exciting, especially when going back to an old jersey with maybe an updated flare to it. As you have seen above, the men wore this “new jersey” in the exhibition opener and instead of the home whites it was gold which makes it even more snazzy.

Changes Must Be Made

I have seen some teams blow some big leads in my day, whether good or bad.  I saw the Giants blow a game against the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs, the Mets blow a huge lead against the Washington Nationals, the Mets win a game after being down to the Braves and there are plenty more to choose from.  What we saw on Sunday when the Giants had a 19-0 and 26-8 lead against the Broncos and then lose on a field goal at the buzzer was just brutal.

The Giants looked great for the first three quarters holding the aforementioned 19-0 lead going into the fourth quarter.  Denver scored a touchdown and you though it was ok because the Giants came back down and scored to pull ahead in the second aforementioned score, 26-8.  Next thing you know, the Giants offense went down the toilet and the Broncos scored three straight touchdowns to go ahead 30-26.

What I have not mentioned yet is that the Giants brutal kicker, Jude McAtamney, who missed an extra point last week against the Eagles, missed another early in the game today and then after the Broncos came down and took the lead, the Giants were able to go back down the field and score a touchdown.  The extra point should have given the Giants a three-point lead and you figured the Giants can hold the Broncos to just a field goal the game would go to overtime.

Nope!!!  Unfortunately, McAtamney missed his second PAT of the day and now the Giants only had a two-point lead and if you watched you know the Broncos came down, kicked that field goal and won the game.  It also does not help that Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll went for two after the third Giants touchdown to try and give them a three-touchdown lead.  They did not convert and were up 19-0.

Late in the game, the Giants had opportunities to ice the game.  They just needed a couple of first downs and all of the sudden the play calling went uber conservative.  The Broncos were stacking the line of scrimmage knowing what was coming and the Giants could not do anything. These led to the Broncos being able to continue to score.

Brian Daboll was on the hottest of seats even before this season started and they way the season started it seemed he may be gone very soon.  He decided to make the switch to Jaxson Dart and it has paid dividends.  Dart has been great and coming off of the win against the Eagles people were thinking Dart may be saving Daboll’s job.

Well, after today he needs to go!!  And he needs to go ASAP!!  This is an unacceptable loss.  Before the season nobody expected the Giants to win last week or this week ad they were seconds away from winning both.  The bonehead decisions that this guy makes cannot happen and he should not be the coach of this team anymore.  I don’t care who would be named the head coach right now but Daboll needs to go.  After going into the medical tent to try and sway doctors that his quarterback needed to be out there for the next set of downs against the Eagles or the bad calls today is just unacceptable.  The Giants could have brought in a different kicker but they have stayed with McAtamney and he is now biting them where it hurts.

Knowing the Maras I do not expect any immediate changes, but they need to happen and happen right away!!!

END OF RANT!!!
