Thoughts, by Chris Daglis
I have many thoughts, but for the sake of this blog I’ll stick to mostly sports, although, I have a sudden urge for a Big Mac and fries.
My first thought is about the New York Mets. The boys have written about how magical of a run it has been for the Mets down the stretch and in the playoffs. Memories of this run won’t soon be forgotten, especially those home runs by Lindor and Polar Bear.
My second thought is the Giants stink. End of thought.
My third thought is about the Syracuse University football team. Big game coming up against Pittsburgh on Thursday night. This game will go a long way on whether or not Syracuse can actually contend for an ACC title game berth. It may all come down to the final game at home versus “the U.” Kyle McCord has been a rather good quarterback for the Orange, better than we have seen here in several years. Let’s go Orange!
My fourth thought is about Liverpool Football Club. A win against Chelsea on Sunday was exactly what the doctor ordered coming off an international break. Usually after a two week lay off, the team (any team for that matter) is sluggish. But Liverpool proved today under new head man Arne Slot that they can be a contender for the Premier League title. The win Sunday put them back up on the perch.
My fifth thought is, how good are the New York Rangers going to be? I suppose it’s more of a question isn’t it? They will be contenders. Off to an excellent start. AND SIGN IGOR ALREADY!
My final thought is about refereeing high school soccer. The regular season came to an end in my neck of the woods over the weekend and for the most part, the parents were tolerable as were most of the coaches. The disappointing thing is that some of these coaches, that are also teachers and educators, don’t act like teachers or educators on the field. Maybe take a lesson from some of your players, coaches. Maybe they are the one’s leading by example and not you. I saw a lovely clip from a referee account I follow on Instagram (the kids call it IG). He basically said that it just takes one parent to dissent against a call during a game where it gets the attention of a player, and in turn, the player dissents against the referee for a benign call. Like coaches, parents, you can do better. Your kid isn’t the next Messi. It’s just an afterschool activity your kid is participating in.
As this will be my final blog before our national election which takes place on November 5, 2024, I encourage anyone that has not registered to vote to do so. And when you do, head to the polls on election day and vote. Elections are important at every level of government and your vote is important.
Be well everyone!
