There Needs to be an Explanation
SO, I feel like there is a need to explain my absence from our previous podcast episode but first let me take you back to a time, stop me if you’ve heard this before, but before Covid-19. Previous to March of 2020, there is a freeness that we would do anything but at the same time I think we took for granted that same freeness.
I know before that fun time in our lives, I would try to go to as many baseball games or any sporting event, concerts, etc. and I did. I have travelled to many different ballparks and I have been to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver to name a couple.
During that time though there was also that feeling of well if I don’t go see this band or go on that trip, it is no big deal because I will go another time. Well then, we had Covid come along and it really made people reevaluate how they think about their time and what they do outside of being at home and going to work.
Once we started to get “back to normal” and after seeing so many people who passed away whether from the virus or complications due to the virus, it really put an onus on being able to live our lives. My wife and I felt that and also with two young kids, we wanted to do activities with them but also with each other and by ourselves with friends, as well as just see friends we have not seen in a while.
The first activity we were scheduled to go to was an Alanis Morrisette concert in 2021, but Hurricane Ida decided that would not be the case and our first concert after covid got postponed for a year. My first baseball game post covid was opening day in 2022, we went to that same Alanis concert in August. Since then we have been to many concerts, I have been to many baseball games and as you read in my last blog Traveling Man, I have travelled pretty far to go see the Mets play.
My wife has travelled to California and Arizona among other places with friends because we realize our time is precious and not only as I mentioned is it important for us to do activities with our family but also with our friends.
Most recently, I have gone to see the Foo Fighters, who I was scheduled to see pre-Covid but due to the unfortunate death of Taylor Hawkins, the tour was understandably canceled and we never knew if they would tour again. Once I found out they were going back on tour, it was a must have ticket. Two days later I went with my wife to see Blink-182, a band we have both loved since the 90s and we were both at Jones Beach in 1999 (separately) seeing them play. The band eventually broke up, quasi got back together and then this year announce the whole band was getting back together to tour again. Another must have ticket.
This brings me to the reason I am writing this blog and the shots that were fired my way in our most recent Shooting the Breeze, Vol 2 podcast. Again, with my wife because another band we both love, who we have seen together and I have seen multiple times with friends was playing that night. The band (drumroll please) was none other than Green Day!!! Not only was Green Day playing that night but opening for them was The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas. I was excited to also see The Smashing Pumpkins and my wife was looking forward to Rancid (sorry Linda Linda’s). This was not just any Green Day concert though. Get ready to feel old, but it is 30 years since they release the album Dookie and 20 years since they released the album American Idiot. They always put on a great show but this time they played each and every song from both albums. Almost 40 songs worth of music. Barely any breaks in between songs and just song after song after song. It was a fabulous concert all around and one that I could not miss. Also, to add icing on the cake, I randomly ran into an old friend and Oswego Alumni who I have not seen in a very long time, none other than Jim Scott.
So, there you have it folks. Now you know why I missed our last podcast. I don’t miss podcasts very often unless for a good reason and this was as good a reason as any. Unfortunately, I also do not control when concerts are scheduled and this happened to fall on a Monday. Oh well, it is what it is. It’s not traveling in Europe or on vacation getting engaged but it is an important part of our lives that we cannot miss.
Any questions, feel free to reach out.
